Kono Sauvignon Blanc

Hello My Friends!

I want to let you know about this awesome Sauvignon Blanc that I've found... it's called Kono, Wine of New Zealand. If you like Sauv Blancs, and you like them from the New Zealand region - you are going to LOVE this wine!

It is so fresh, crisp and delicious - I'm willing to bet that you will write me a personal thank you note for turning you on to it! Typically in the winter, you can easily find ourself drowning in a sea of red wines... this season I'm going with white! I am especially fond of this particular brand and bottle...

I tried this wine for the first time on a whim, honestly - because the bottle is appealing... it's a slightly greenish tinted glass and the label is bright white - it just screamed "PICK ME", and secondly because the price was right! I found this bottle for just under $10. The first sip was such a nice surprise... the hint of the citrus we all know and love from our New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs was far from overwhelming, and this wine has a superb crip, light taste... I had my glass (or two) with a few ice cubes and it was a delightful, refreshing break... I couldn't wait to hit the ground running in search of this wine at my local wine shop.

I have since then, searched for this wine, found it (yay!), and discovered that it's averaging $10 a bottle... and I can barely keep up with stocking it in the apartment - everyone loves it! I highly recommend picking up a bottle or two and giving it a try - it's easy on the wallet, it's a very pretty bottle so it looks GREAT on the table and on the shelf, and if you like Sauvignon Blanc's, I honestly believe that this one will become an instant favorite of yours. It's certainly a new favorite of mine.

Cheers!

I Officially Suck At Blogging!

So I can now say - I officially suck at blogging! I went over an entire month, without posting anything new...

Partially because I've been really busy and partially because I haven't come across any great products or activities to recommend...unless you can count sitting on the couch watching a 5 hour marathon of "Say Yes To The Dress" on TLC... haha.

Lately I've been debating if I should get a Christmas tree for my apartment. I certainly have the room - but somewhere inside myself, I'm thinking - perhaps my home should be an oasis...a safe haven from the overload of Christmas & Holiday decorations... I see enough stuff everywhere and I have no sentimental attachment to a tree - and I certainly don't want to clean up after it or remember to water it and kill my hard wood floors.... don't know. I haven't fully committed either way... I guess we'll see what happens when I'm bored this weekend!

I've been drinking a touch of white wine lately - I have never been a white wine drinker before (always preferring red) but something about the light and crisp taste of white - helps the holidays not feel so heavy... I've become a fan of Pino Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc (from New Zealand regions) - the Barefoot Sauvignon Blanc is pretty tasty and definitely reasonably priced.

Happy Holidays everyone - and cheers to hoping that I remember to blog more often! ha!

Ikea

Yes, we all love nice looking furniture at a discounted price - so I went to Ikea this weekend and fetched a lovely dresser and tv/shelving table.

This blog posting is short and sweet:

When you purchase Ikea furniture - DOUBLE check that you have all the right pieces before you assemble. When I say double check, I mean don't just count and glance at the sizes - you'll want to check to make sure that the screw/bolt holes are accurate on all of the pieces. I'm not going to lie - this will take you about 15 extra minutes, but trust me, it's worth it.

Buggers sent me home with the wrong pieces for a dresser drawer (three wrong pieces, all for the same drawer) and the wrong sized doors for the tv/shelving unit (after we asked for help and had the guy double check the sizes).

It's great looking furniture, but that "discounted price" includes the amount you'll pay in gas, driving back to the store 2 or 3 times to replace/garner parts.

It's helpful to plan for this in advance so that you aren't as dissapointed when it DOES happen.

Cheers and happy assembling,
J

Pizza Stones

I am a LOVER of pizza stones - I actually cannot live without one in the house. I absolutely love making pizza at home - it's super delicious and makes for way better leftovers...

But to do this properly - you must and I mean MUST own a proper pizza stone. I have learned from experience that without the proper pizza stone - you are looking at a gooey, oily mess left over on your stone that will NEVER and I mean never, wash out.

Moving into my own apartment recently - my sister was kind enough to buy me my own pizza stone to replace the one I was leaving behind... I was so touched by this and beyond grateful because I really needed it.

The sad part is that I hate this pizza stone. I couldn't be more dissapointed for two reasons a) it sucks and b)my sister gave it to me as the nicest gesture and I would give anything to love it.

Here's why it's horrible - it's not a smooth surface... it's course like an emory (emmry, emry how do you spell this???) board. I mean, you could actually file your nails on this thing if you wanted too. And it's not sealed.

I re-heated some pizza on it last night and every drop of cheese/oil left a nasty oil stain on it. I think I built a new muscle in my arm just trying to scrub this thing and it RUINED my sponge. Because if it could file nails, it can demolish a brand new thick sponge. Proof was in the pudding.

So - the reason why I'm typing about it today is to let you all know what to look for when buying your beloved pizza stone. Unfortunately I don't have any to recommend at the moment, but BELIEVE me, I will be on the hunt and will surely update this posting as soon as a hero arrives.

OPEN THE BOX before you buy it. Make sure that it's smooth and sealed. You don't want it to be any type of "dry" material - if you can imagine a drop of water getting soaked up by it - it's going to be awful. It's worth the extra money to buy a good one, because you really don't want an oily-looking mess sitting in your cabinet. That's no appetizing.

Good luck out there in the pizza stone world and check back for an update because I'm on the lookout and will be sure to send a link!

Cheers,
J

Saying Goodbye to Our Favorite Magazines

It is with a heavy, heavy heart that I relay the news to you this morning... In case you haven't heard...yesterday morning news circulated like wild fire about a few Conde Nast publications that are getting the axe.

Unfortunately Gourmet, Cookie, Modern Bride and Elegant Bride magazines have all been shut down due to lack of advertising $$.

It is a sad day that one of our most beloved cooking magazines gets cancelled...and Cookie (a great parenting magazine) was just getting started and was about to approach their 5th Anniversary. As someone who works with all of the bridal magazines on a regular basis, it is very sad to see Modern Bride & Elegant Bride get the boot - it leaves a gaping hole in the magazine industry for this niche...

This just goes to show you - if you love something, you MUST support it. That can be people, magazines, beliefs, initiatives, ideas, TV shows, Radio shows, friends and family...the list goes on.

Let this serve as a reminder to us all - if we love it, love it fully.

A Fabulous & Easy Dinner!

Good Morning Sunshines!

Just wanted to share with you a meal that's near and dear to my heart. It's quick, easy, filling and delicious - unfortunately - it's not as healthy as can be, but I'm sure with a few adjustments on your end - you could certainly take that road if you're so inclined...

What you'll need:

Thinly sliced bonless pork chops
One bag of yellow rice
Sour Cream
Teriyaki marinade

You'll want to slice up your pork chops into bite sized chunks and let them soak in some delicious teriyaki marinade (for however long you see fit). Then get your yellow rice a-cookin' and your grill a-grillin'.

Cook the rice, grill the pork and when it's all done - mix together and serve with a dollop of sour cream.

You'll thank me, it's delicious. (You can also use beef and/or chicken instead of pork - or all three if you're feeling ambitious).

Cheers!

New Trouser Jeans From The GAP!

Hi There!

I know, I know - long time no see (or read)... things have been beyond crazy for me these last few weeks! But, I'm back and if I do say so myself, better than ever.

I went shopping this weekend at the outlets, and found these KILLER jeans from The GAP, and I just have to tell you about them.

It's a new TROUSER jean, made of stretchy cotton. My oh my - the comfort of these jeans. I absolutely love them. In fact, I loved them so much in the dressing room, that I was going to buy two pairs - but they didn't have two in my size - so I'm thanking my lucky stars that they had at least one pair for me to bring home!

They come in a dark wash (which I love for its slimming effect), and as I mentioned before, they're made of super stretchy cotton - very comfortable. The waist band sits high but not too high, but no need to worry about your beautiful butt crack saying hello to the world while you reach down for your laundry detergent in Pathmark! Two front pockets and two back pockets - zipper front w/button...

They look great, but feel even better - they stretch in all the right places and have a wide trouser leg which is super flattering to your rear and thighs.

They retail for about $45, but at the outlets, I found them on sale for about $28. A very nice price for a pair of jeans I can already tell you - I will be wearing every day. Now... I'm going to have to stalk my local outlet for another pair in my size...look out GAP employees - You'll be getting to know me VERY well these next few weeks :)

And sorry guys - I looked for a link online at GAP.com, but couldn't find one - so perhaps they're just available at outlets right now???

Here's to you shopping and finding these awesome pants!

Cheers,
J

Hanes No Wedgie Underwear

Well,

I know for most of us, our underwear is a sensitive and private issue - but today I'm putting it all out there. A few months ago I was mesmerized by the promises of wedgie free underwear from Hanes, so since there's an outlet by my house - I figured - what the hey - I'll give it a whirl.

And so I did. I was enjoying the underwear for a few weeks but to be perfectly honest - after a few washes, they just don't hold up. The elasticity dissapears and they start falling down off your butt.

To be true - there are no wedgies, so their claims are honest and correct - but what about your underwear falling down?? That's a bigger issue than a wedgie if I do say so myself.

Two thumbs down.

The Big Move

So as of October 1st, I'll be living in a new apartment! I couldn't be happier - it's taken me almost a year to find a suitable apartment - and that's a LOT of time and energy. I broke down in March/April and hired myself a realtor so that I could stop going bonkers online looking at craigslist and the like every night - it was becoming a second job that I quickly came to despise. And let's not even count all of those wasted hours I spent going to look at crap holes, after work and not getting home until after 9 PM, the amount of time I've wasted over the past year - would have added up to thousands of extra dollars if I had spent that time delivering pizza's or serving dinners instead... what a waste.

But, alas, all is not lost - in May, my realtor found me an amazing apartment with acceptable rent and in an ideal location. I've been waiting for the tenants to move out so that I can move in ALL SUMMER. October 1 - they are out, and I AM IN!

So I've spent the past few weeks packing up, shopping and organizing for the big move. I have a lot of stuff it seems. Although if you had asked me 6 months ago, I would have told you that I had barely any things.... funny.

I'm shopping for things like coffee pots, toaster ovens, dishes, etc... if anyone has any great tips on cheap stuff or things they don't want anymore - let me know!

Otherwise - I'm looking forward to the Sunday circulars and Khol's coupons.

Ciao,
J

New Season of Project Runway!

Good Morning!

I stayed up past my bedtime last night to prove my loyalty to Heidi and Tim - and boy am I glad I did :) The new season of Project Runway is off to a very promising start. The talent that some of these designers have is mindblowing - the guy who won the first challenge is VERY intreaging to me and I can't wait to see what else he'll create. The bottom two however....what the heck?

The girl was crazy - but at least she knew how to complete an outfit! The guy sent a completely sheer dress down the runway and you could tell he made it in less than one hour! How could they keep someone who couldn't even make a simple dress (ever hear of draping or wrapping something around her like a sarong???) The girl was crazy, but at least she made an interesting dress and it didn't fall off or fall apart... I think the judges got it wrong - but lucky for me, we have the rest of the season to find out!

The new model reality show after Project Runway however - I could do without. I always liked the mystery and anonymity of the models before - I don't want to hear how caddy they are and how shallow and greedy they become. I like them to be blank pallets for the outfits we've come to love and lust after.... oh well.

Already excited for next week!

Patricia Heaton's Dismal Appearance

Was anyone else watching the other night when the epitomy of annoying Patricia Heaton made her celebrity appearance on Millionaire???

I sure was, and I was THIS close to clawing my own eyes and eardrums out - that lady should be locked in a closet and we should throw away the key! Ick! She has one of the world's most annoying voices and her attitude and demeanor are just atrocious - needless to say, I feel overwhelming dislike for her. (and so does her ex-assistant who said that she was a super diva and wouldn't pay her for any overtime or earned wages - lawsuit has been filed....grrrrrrr - fuel to my fire)

My feelings of displeasure were only multiplied by the fact that she's such a stupid cow! It was like watching a trainwreck that just wouldn't end. You could tell that even the audience wanted to throw rotten eggs her way - if only they would given them the rotten eggs - now THAT would have been some awesome TV)

Lucky for you all - the trainwreck continues in the land of YouTube and the link is here for you all to be annoyed by:

Enjoy or hate me for it - but either way, watch it.

StumbleUpon.com!

Hi There My Lovelies!

Boy do I have something cool to tell you about today! Stumble Upon www.StumbleUpon.com is such an awesome online tool, I'm borderline addicted and on way way to making it official.

Let me explain - You go onto StumbleUpon.com and sign up (takes two seconds) you fill out a short form about what sort of websites you like to look at online. You then download a special toolbar, which doesn't take up any additional space).

As you search online, you can use this special toolbar to LIKE or DISLIKE websites that you come across by clicking on a thumbs up or a thumbs down button.

When you're bored, or needing a vacation of the mind - you can click the STUMBLE button and it will give you completely random websites to look at based on what you like, and the profile that you've created for yourself. This is like Pandora for websites!

I really love it, and I've already come across some wonderful things like the World Beard Championships, a list of the most annoying things you can do in the office, a man who had his brother's arm surgically attached to his boob (not kidding you) and many other random bits!

I will warn you however - this could get extremely addictive as it's truly entertaining!

Enjoy!

I'm Looking for Monstro!

I was lucky enough to catch the classic "Pinocchio" on ABC Family yesterday afternoon. I highly recommend watching some of the old Disney classics. Do you even remember the story of Pinocchio? I thought I did - but clearly I was mistaken. I had completely forgotten that the bad guy was turning the young boys into donkeys and that Pinocchio gets sick from inhaling a big cigar and drinking beer, and that they had to search for a whale at the bottom of the sea.... haha! GREAT to revisit a classic - so today I'm urging you to do the same.
Make some time and watch a classic Disney movie that you don't remember very well. You'll be glad you did!

Best,
JJ

Print Media

Good Morning Everyone!

Sorry that it's been so long since my last post - but it's nice out and I'm enjoying the summer! Anyway - I'd like to touch base on something near and dear to my heart: newspapers and magazines. They're taking a BIG hit in the economy and many are going bankrupt, being suspended and just plain getting the boot.

I don't know about you - but isn't there something really nice about opening the newspaper, smelling that smell, getting your hands all dirty on the days fresh news??? I personally love it and can't stand the thought of one day not being able to do it!

With everyone getting their news from the internet, newspapers are having a hard time keeping up with the latest news as most people already know about it already! That's were journalists have to play their major role - in getting the story that the online outlets don't already have. It's hard for me to see so many of these journalists giving up and not going into the depth that they could to save their papers... I know it's not all about them - but it plays a major role.

And with magazines! People just cannot afford to pay the $50 or more dollars per year to have a magazine delivered every month - it's clearly an easy way to save a few bucks by cutting back on the extras you don't really need - but just want...

I hope that print media will make a comeback and be able to survive this recession.... I really do. So - if you love it as much as I do - go out and buy some new issues and don't suspend your newspaper deliveries!!!

Cheers!

One Bangin' Mexican Dip Recipe!

Hellllooo There!

I'm off for a fun weekend with live music and friends - so naturally I thought to make a giant sized portion of delicious mexican dip to bring along! Haha - so I wanted to share this recipe with you. Tons of my friends have asked me for it over the years, and to be honest - it changes with what's in the kitchen... but the main ingredients stay the same - you know me - More Is More! Bon Appetit!

Ingredients:
1 large can of whole corn kernals
1 can of vegetarian refried beans (you can use whatever kind of refried beans you want)
1 large can of sliced olives
1 jar of medium salsa
1 can of black beans
1 package of ground beef/turkey/chicken (however much you want)
1 large brick of sharp cheddar cheese (or two bricks if you love cheese as much as I do!)
1 package of Philadelphia Cream Cheese (or two if you....)
1 bag of tortilla chips
1 package of taco seasoning
Chipotle seasoning (whatever variety you prefer: sauce, powder, etc...)
Sour Cream (optional)

You will also need:
1 disposable tin to put this all in - so think about how many of these ingredients you truly want to add and how much room you're going to need for it all (last night I used a turkey roasting pan and it was $3.00 at the supermarket)

Mix together in the pan: corn, refried beans, olives, salsa, black beans, philly cream cheese and a tad bit of chipotle seasoning.

Cook up your meat and follow the directions on the back of the taco seasoning packet - obviously add your seasoning to the meat. Let the meat cool off for a few minutes (10) and then stir it in with everything else. It's OK to leave chunks of the cream cheese :)

Top it off with grated cheddar cheese (and of course you could make it a mixture of cheeses if you wish - far be it from me to put restrictions on cheese!!!)

Cook in the oven at 450 until the entire dish is bubbling and the cheese is slightly browned.

Allow to cool for at least 20 minutes and then Wha-La! Serve with chips and sour cream! Your friends/family are gonna love you for this! And if you're traveling with it, you can always cook it when you get there to heat it all up, just make sure you remember that there's meat in it, so don't leave it out too long!

Enjoy!

HBO's "Prom Night In Mississippi"

I must be upfront - this post is a departure from my usual upbeat and fun product/music recommendations.... I want to talk to you all about HBO's "Prom Night in Mississippi", which aired last night on HBO for the first time.

I knew the premise of this movie/documentary was racism, but I wasn't exactly sure about watching it. Something inside of me reminded me it was on last night and my little voice inside said "watch it, you have to". So watch it I did.

How sad. I cried through almost the entire hour and a 1/2. Not for reasons most people would be upset, but just because the content was jarring, to say the least and it truly shook me to the core. We all know that there are pockets of the "Old South" that still adhere to the days of hard-core racism, but when it's layed out so blaintantly in a documentary with honest commentary - you can't help but cry or at least be truly sad.

Morgan Freeman lends his celebrity to this documentary as he is from the little town of Charleston, Mississippi; where the film is centered - he injects a little motivatin and "can do" attitude and gets the movie off and running.

To give you a little run-down: This documentary takes place in Charleston, Mississippi and focuses on a group of high-school seniors and their prom. The school is integrated but the proms are sponsored by students and parents and therefore have always been separate - a white prom for whites only and a black prom, for blacks only. Morgan Freeman speaks to the senior class and asks them if they'd like to have a "mixed prom" and the majority say yes. So he gets the school to sponsor their first "mixed prom" and the rest of the documentary is the fall out, hardships, opinions, etc... of this very difficult task.

I would suggest to anyone, that they watch this documentary - but be prepared, it is deep and it will move you. Be prepared to dedicate the hour and a 1/2 to watch this film because - well, you should.

Check out the website for a trailer and more info: http://www.promnightinmississippi.com/

and check out HBO Documentary Summer Series http://www.hbo.com/index.shtml to see when they will air this movie again, it's a MUST SEE.

The Colgate Wisp!

Hi All!

Are you planning a fun night out on the town this weekend? Or perhaps you're camping? No matter what your plans are - you will be glad that I told you about this little beauty! The new Colgate Wisp! I honestly have to thank my sister for physically bringing it into my life - although I have seen the Colgate Wisp commericals - I had not taken the next step and actually purchased them... so thanks sis!

Wow, what a great little invention! While the eco-friendly side of me says, "how could I possibly be supporting another throw-away item??!!" the other side of me says "this is one of the coolest ideas and greatest inventions of our time!" It's basically just a mini-toothbrush with a dab of toothpaste on it, you can bring it anywhere - use it and toss it! It's perfect for a night out, camping, road trips, long days at work, etc... whenever you might need that added enjoyment of true fresh breath - whip out your Wisp and get the job done!

Four little Wisps come in a package (costs just a few bucks at your local store - I found a great sale at CVS last week, 2 packs of Wisps for $3.25...so very reasonably priced!)... and each Wisp is sealed and packaged seperately so you don't have to take all four out with you... they come in three different flavors and at the end of each toothbrush is a mini pick... how awesome is that!?!

I hightly recommend - the Elbow Room gives the Colgate Wisp an A++
Pick one up today at your local Supermarket or Drugstore!

O'death

I had the chance to see a fantastic band this weekend called O'death - wow, what a surprise! First off, I had no idea what I was in for, but this band was opening for the legendary Les Claypool, so I knew they would have some sort of twist - but little did I know how AWESOME they are!!!

Talk about an eclectic mix of energy, high enthusiasm, love of music, new and interesting sounds, great loud fun and tons of dancing! I was more than pleasantly surprised. With a name like O'death, I was expecting some sort of heavy metal type music (which really isn't my cup of tea) but when they came on, it was the total opposite of what I was expecting!

There's really no possible way to describe this band, but I'll do my best: They say that their latest album is a "giddy junkyard hoedown" and they're right on the ball with that! I'd say that if Bluegrass and headbanger music had a baby - it might sound something like this, maybe - but to be perfectly honest, I've never heard any other band or artist that sounds quite like these guys! They have a banjo, fiddle, bass guitar, ukeleili (sp?) and a drum set and so much more, and my oh my, do they play the ever living hell out of their instruments! I've never quite seen energy like this on stage before - they are SO into it, that you cannot help but be into it too!

They have a wide variety of tunes - starting with your sing alongs, rock alongs and anthem/ballad types - all very impressive. These five guys: Greg Jamie, Gabe Darling, Bob Pycior, Newman and David Rogers-Berry are something of musical geniuses... they take their shirts off, jump all around the stage, stand on their instruments, play with broken drum kits and smashed cymbals, etc... they make you appreciate sound again...

Immediately after their set ended, I ran to the merch table and bought both of their CD's "Broken Hyms, Limbs & Skin" and "Head Home" - I've listened to both this week and while it doesn't compare with their live show - it's a great way to introduce yourself to their crazy lyrics, enchanting musical abilitites and hysterical sense of humor.

This NYC-based band is currently on tour with Les Claypool and then they head overseas for some UK shows --- and they've informed me that they'll have to take a short break when that's done because their (very cute) drummer has to have surgery... All I can say is that we all wish him well and hope that O'death will return to the music scene faster than ever because I cannot wait to grab my friends and get to their next show! And this time, I'll bring my stomping shoes!
You can check out their website here:http://www.odeath.net/beta/index.php

And I highly suggest keeping tabs on these guys, because in my humble opinion - these guys are on the fast-track to success and I'm willing to bet that sooner than later, everyone is going to know who they are!

Enjoy!

New Orbit Mist Gum

Hello All!

So sorry for the lack of posts last week - but the death of "Best Week Ever" really sent me into a tizzy -HaHa- JUST KIDDING! I was super busy and the weather was actually nice! So I enjoyed :)

Thought I'd report back to you all on the new Orbit Mist gum that they just came out with. I had a chance to try the "Mango Surf" and "Peppermint Spray" flavors. The peppermint was 10x's better than the mango - and it was a nice minty flavor! My friend Nicole and I both agreed it was a decent gum. Didn't quite stand out as the best gum in the world (I have yet to find such a gum) but not a waste of money like some other options out there... so go ahead and give it a whirl if you're tempted!

Have a great minty fresh day!

The End of VH1's "Best Week Ever"!

I am so sad to be reporting this news - but apparently VH1 has cancelled their hit celebrity gossip/entertainment "news" show "Best Week Ever"....

I am deeply saddened by this news as I am a HUGE fan of all the comedians who have lent their talents to the uber-hilarious parody show. It has given me many laughs!

VH1 has now cancelled two of my favorite shows - "Best Week Ever" and "World Series of Pop Culture" - what am I going to do now you ask?

I'm going to click onto the VH1 Best Week Ever Message Boards:

http://forums.vh1.com/vh1/board?board.id=87cb9fd883536ab7d6c6f7a244c39d20

and comment somewhere to let them know how I feel and YOU SHOULD DO THE SAME - this show is awesome!!! If they can save that dumb show Jericho, we can save our "Best Week Ever". Save the good TV! Who wants to watch "New York Goes to Work"? I'd rather be gagging to death!

July 4th Is Also "Tom Sawyer Fence-Painting Day"!

Hello There Beautiful People!

In honor of this very special Fourth of July weekend - I wanted to share with you some information about the lesser known, but equally as joyous, holidays that we most often overlook.

Did you know that each day is special? Did you know that each day honors something cool, funny, interesting, weird or ordinary? For instance, Today - July 2nd - is "Visitation Of The Virgin Mary Day" and tomorrow - July 3rd - is "Stay Out Of The Sun Day" and is also "Compliment Your Mirror Day".

Weird or completely awesome? I think awesome. Why not have something else to look forward to other than Monday or Wednesday - make today special by letting everyone you know, into "the know" by celebrating each and every special day.

Visit: http://www.louderbacks.com/home/dict/days.html for a complete roster of national and world holidays!

Enjoy!

Knorr Vegetable Dip!

Good Afternoon World!

Today, I'm here to let you know about a quick and easy snack that you are going to LOVE! Like dip? Then this is a post for you :)

Knorr Vegetable Dip is quite possibly, the very best dip on the planet (In my humble opinion of course)! We always have at least two or three packages in the house!

It's packed full of delicious vegetables and has an excellent flavor. You can mix it with reduced fat sour cream, and wha-la - presto chango! An awesome, low-cal snack. I like to eat it with reduced fat wheat thins, but I suppose vegetables would be good too.... one step at a time, as they say! ha! I like to make a big batch of it in a rubbermaid/tupperware and take portions of it to work, for a mid-afternoon snack....it's a happy pick me up!

Hints from me to you:

Be sure that you mix this bundle of joy at least an hour before you plan to eat it. The vegetables are dehydrated and need time to suck up all the moisture from the sour cream... if you eat it too quickly, you'll hurt your teeth and it won't taste as great. It's worth the wait.... I like to make mine at night and then let it sit in the fridge over night... no worries with that!

It's really easy to make this - just mix up one whole container of sour cream with one whole package of vegetable dip, mix, cover and wait - then EAT! It won't leave you with bad breath like onion dip, and you can feel good about getting some veggies into your diet. This also tastes great on a baked potato...

For Added Fun:
If you know of a place that sells rosemary bread, you'll definitely want to try it with this dip, I really do think it's the best possible combination... A fresh rosemary bread bowl with Knorr Vegetable Dip - Divine.

Enjoy!

*I swear no one pays me to write these reviews....I'm just sharing the good stuff! But if someone wanted to send me boxes of this stuff, well.....Knorr people... are you reading?

Animal Liberation Orchestra

Hi Guys!

Today, I'm telling you about a great band:
Animal Liberation Orchestra (or ALO for short but not to be confused with that awful boy band from the 90's - they're nothing like that, what-so-ever) http://www.alomusic.com/home.html

I first heard of this band a handful of years ago as they started touring the circut... but I really got into them on JamCruise 7 this past January. If you don't know what JamCruise is, and you LOVE live music - you should probably find out about it b/c you're missing out...

Anyway - they played their first set on that voyage and it completely and totally changed my life... yes I had had a few cocktails, but seriously - they were one of the greatest bands that trip and I was an instant fan! I just picked up some of their cd's a-la BarnesandNoble.com (which I will keep telling you to check out until I'm blue in the face b/c it's surprisingly awesome) and I wanted to tell you all to do the same. This band is awesome and their music really fits any mood you're in. Not to mention they're all pretty gosh darned cute...

(C) Casey Flanigan
(C) Jay Blakesburg & Damien Miller

Zach Gill, Dan Lebowitz, Steve Adams and Dave Brogan (members of ALO) know how to get you dancing and how to get you into a happier mood - so go ahead and download some of their songs from iTunes (if you're looking for a good first song I will suggest "Wasting Time (Isla Vista Song)") and pick up their CD's at some point when you need a change, or are looking to broaden your horizons... I highly recommend! And if you're looking to see them live, which I also highly recommend, they are criss-crossing the country and THE WORLD this summer - so you'd better hop to it!

Visit their ultra-hip website for more info and tour dates: http://www.alomusic.com/home.html
Here are two of their albums:

Awesome Mashed Potatoes Recipe!

Happy Tuesday All!

Over the weekend I was watching Iron Chef and I was inspired to make a mashed potato mixture - it was truly awesome! So I'm sharing my ingredients with you:

WHAT YOU NEED:
Lots of Potatoes (I used red potatoes but any kind will do)
Heavy Cream
Butter
Fresh Chives
Bacon
Onions
Sugar
Gruyere Cheese

WHAT TO DO:
Wash your potatoes, leave the skin on and boil them until they're soft
cut up your onions, microwave them for four-five minutes with butter then fry until golden brown - when golden brown, add a touch of sugar to carmelize
Cook up some bacon - but make sure you undercook to keep it soft - then cut into small-ish pieces (when cool)
Chop up some fresh chives

MIX :
mash up your potatoes with the skins still on
add in your carmelized onions, chopped chives, chopped bacon
add butter and heavy cream
*Mix this all up until potatoes are successfully mashed to your satisfaction

COOK:
Put this all in a baking pan and top with grated Gruyere cheese and put in the oven at about 400 - cook until everything is bubbling and the cheese is browned on top

You (and everyone else) will love this!

Next weekend I'm going to try blue cheese potatoes.... if it's good, I'll share the recipe!

The Perfect Mimosa!

Hi All! On this exceptionally lovely Friday, I thought I would share with you my recipe for a delicious and addictive mimosa!

Here's what you'll need

Lots of Champagne (I actually prefer Andre Extra Dry for around $5 a bottle)
Tropicana Tangerine/Orange Juice
Shwepps Ginger Ale
Fresh or Frozen Berries
A Few Ice Cubes

How To:
Pretty self explanitory - drop a few ice cubes in your glass, fill 3/4 of the way with champagne, add a large splash of the tangerine/orange juice, plop a few berries in there and top off with a few dashes of ginger ale.

*For Added Fun*
--In addition to the ingredients above --
Grab a large glass (to fit all of these ingredients of course), and add a few fresh mint leaves (very lightly mashed, just enough to bring out the flavor) and a big splash of Cruzan mango rum - NOW WE'RE TALKIN'! I like to call this little tasty number "The Mang-Oh-La-La"

You can thank me later :)

A Great "Real Size" Pair Of Jeans!

Good Afternoon!

I wanted to share a great pair of jeans I've discovered for those of us out there who don't care to count our calories... Women's Plus Low-Rise Wide-Leg Denim Trousers - WOOT! These jeans are from Old Navy, and let me tell you - they're the most comfortable pair of jeans I've ever worn and they're brand new!

Right now they're on sale (online only) for $25. The wide leg is very slimming and the buttons are really cool. The jeans material has a lot of stretch to it, so you can go and do whatever you want and still feel comfortable. For $25 you can't really go wrong....

LAST.FM

Looking for a good site to listen to free music? Is Pandora killing your computer? I have a great alternative for you: http://www.last.fm/ - awesome!

It's a free, streaming music service that let's you type in an artist that you like and it automatically takes you to that band (or song, or genre's) station! Pretty cool. You can tell "it" if you love a song or hate a song and you can skip the one's you don't like. If you register, it will remember what you like and don't like (but you don't have to register to enjoy it).

LAST.FM will also tell you if the band is on-tour, give you an interesting bio, and let you know who else the band has been compared to (if you care about that). While the band plays their song for you, LAST.FM shows you various photos of the group/artist so you can see what they look like, a selection of similar artists and a selection of similar stations. You can change your station at any time.

I highly suggest checking this site out! http://www.last.fm/

*BONUS INFO:

And for those of you who are searching for the next great place to buy CD's (for those of us who will continue to support a physical form of music and are saddened by the lack of places to buy them...) I suggest you check out Barnes & Noble online. I know it sounds all wrong, but, I recently received an online B&N gift card and really only wanted music, so I checked it out and behold! They sell a TON of cd's on their website for very affordable prices (most of the ones I checked out, and it was a lot, were right around the $10 mark) and most orders have free shipping :) I was honestly amazed at some of the artists they carry.... tons of artists I would have bet heavily against them having - and they had them (DJ Z-Trip, The Shins, Railroad Earth, Brett Dennen, G-Love, ALO, etc...). Nice surprise! Give it a whirl!

Loreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara Review

Hi All!

Well, after the whole Revlon DoubleTwist debacle/let-down I was about to swear off mascara all together. - YEAH RIGHT!! Instead I went out to the store and bought a few more, because of course I'm swimming in money and can afford to waste $30 on MORE disspointing mascaras.... but what can I say except that maybe this has formed into an addiction? Are there groups for this??? Well, I'm happy to say that it was worth all the trouble because I'm pretty sure that I've found a keeper.

Loreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara

Don't let the collagen thing scare you off. To be honest, I don't think it really makes a difference, but what does make a difference is the fantastic brush, consistency of the mascara, tube/suction ratio and it's lasting power! The packaging claims 12x's the volume - which I don't think anyone on this planet would actually believe (12x's is impossible, even with fake eyelashes) but it does enhance quite nicely.

There is no clumping, no need for a second coat and my favorite part - I didn't need to wipe my lids with a wet q-tip or use my eyelash brush afterwards - HEAVEN! And exactly what I've been looking for. Why should putting on mascara take 20 minutes damn it!?! It's just not right to ask any woman to waste that kind of time standing in the bathroom waiting for mascara to dry so she can comb out the stupid clumps and get on with her day!!!!!!!

I put it on around 8 AM and indeed - it lasted until almost 2 AM! (late night playing Wii Fit!) - NOW THAT'S A TEST!

So, overall - I am extremely pleased with the new mascara. I highly recommend it for women who don't have extremely thin eyelashes - I'm just not sure that the big brush would work for thinner lashes... but to be honest, I just don't know... my lashes are pretty thick and long without mascara, so I'm very lucky to have a head start. I'm telling you, the collagen part doesn't phase me anymore, didn't phase me to begin with but my sister had the all-telling "gross" response when I first told her what I was trying... so for all of you out there with the same response, I say don't be turned offf - I think it adds a great consistency to the liquid that's really worth trying.

The Elbow Room Grade: A

And if you ARE going to go out and try it, you should visit Loreal's website first because there's a $1 coupon available for ANY of their mascaras - check that out here: http://www.lorealparisusa.com/_us/_en/default.aspx#page=top{navmedia:_blankoverlay:_blankdiagnosticmain:subcategory:cosmetics_eyesuserdata//d+d//}

I bought mine at CVS for about $7

Great Camping Weekend!

Hi All!

Happy Monday! - NOT! I am so tired, I could fall asleep sitting straight up with a coffee in both hands and jug band playing on top of my desk.

I had a great weekend camping out in the woods with some of my best friends. It rained almost the entire time, but we managed to have a complete blast. We were celebrating the 10th wedding anniversary of our great friends John and Heather. What a beautiful thing! We stayed up incredibly late, drank way too much and ate a ridiculous amount of delicious food. Our friend had a food liquifier with him, and we pretty much liquified everything in site, then cooked it up - very entertaining and tasty. Did you know that you can liquify bacon and sausage?

Any how - I'm sitting here at work terrified of the poison ivy that is bound to pop up all over... and trying not to pass out on the keyboard... wouldn't want to wake up with the letters I P N U K L on my cheek.... ick.

Wish me luck...

Tah Tah!

MTV's New Show "16 And Pregnant"

Who are the geniuses behind this new show from MTV called "16 and Pregnant"? Do they not realize that most 16 year olds would do anything to be on MTV - including: getting themselves knocked up for a new documentary mini-series? We saw similar fallout with shows such as Jackass - ridiculous, everyday kids, making stupid decisions - thinking that they would be the next MTV star.

I'm guessing their original plans were to scare teens with the realities of unprotected sex - but in the reality we live in today - I think that was beyond short sighted. These featured 16 year olds just landed themselves on a MTV show because of their mistakes and bad judgement.

Maybe MTV could have considered that they might be encouraging the teens of today into thinking that "hey, if all else fails - I'll send an email to MTV and maybe they'll tape it".

Joy Behar Gets Her Own Show?

No Sodium Seltzer?

Why on earth does VINTAGE brand Seltzer say "No Sodium" when clearly - on the label is says that there is 5mg of sodium? How is this OK?
I LOVE me some seltzer - of all flavors. And I'm totally OK with sodium in my life... I have no problem with there being sodium in the seltzer - but why, oh why - would they say "Sodium Free" right on the label on top of the nutrition Facts that clearly say otherwise???

I'm baffled...

Work Related

Thank God It's Friday!!! For Real!

It has been one of the LONGEST weeks of my life. So sorry for not posting more this week, but I've been swamped!

I want to talk about budgets and new clients. So far in my life, I have been very shy when it comes to negotiating new business. I am great at talking about what I can honestly and realistically do for people, I manage appropriate expectations and deliver on my word. I am, however, uncomfortable talking about budgets and money. It's always been a tricky, sticky and un-fun area for me and I have to admit, my timidness in this arena does not compare with my business capabilites and generally outgoing nature. I'm not quite sure where it comes from or why I feel this way - but I have a guess.

I think that I understand people's needs and limitations. When I know that someone can't afford my services - I have to make a judgement call. Do I really like them, do I believe in what they're doing, do I see myself being able to deliver and do I see myself having any fun or enjoyment with the project. Taking all of those things into consideration - I make the decision. In the past, I used to do PR for bands - which was little and often times NO PAY - but I love live music, I could get into shows for free and drink/eat on the bands tab. Balance all that out - and I did make money! I got to save every penny when I went out - priceless :)

These days, things are a bit more professional as I've moved on to working with companies, celebrities, agencies, tours, etc... I work at a PR agency and I don't usually handle the finances (thank God!). But I can't help but think about this ethical way that I used to look at PR.... if I like it - isn't it worth it? If I'm helping people that really need it and deserve it - won't I get re-paid some how from the world of Karma - at some point? I can't help but think that the answers are a big resounded YES to both. I can't help it. I am a passionate person and I love doing work that I believe in - it's not work.

This is why I have problems with budgets - I know that most people don't understand how much a good PR agency is worth... and believe me it would blow. your. mind. but I also understand the importance of enjoying what you do. And making sacrifices to ensure that you stay happy - very important.

Inner struggle... Any advice or suggestions?

GOYA - Fruit Nectar YUM!

Hi Everyone!
I hope you had a great weekend - I did! Thank goodness. I visited with friends, ate BBQ, played shuffleboard, layed by the pool, planted mint, etc... had a great time - the weather was nice and I actually managed to get a bit of color! Hurray!

While laying out and attempting to tan, I decided to make myself some delicious frozen cocktails :) and I thought I'd share a great recipe with you. I am a HUGE fan of mixing flavors, tastes, ingredients and more... I live the more is more philosphy when it comes to food & drinks.

Before I give you the recipe, I wanted to let you know about a great product from GOYA (in case you don't already know). GOYA makes fruit nectars. You can find these cans of nectar in the ethnic food section of your grocery store. More stores will sell it and it's a lot cheaper than one might think (I got two cans for 99 cents). Not too sweet, not like syrup. It's a great way to add flavor to drinks, marinades, sauces, glazes and did I mention drinks! Papaya, banana, guava, mango, pear and more! For less than a buck, you can try it - I bet you'll like it!

Here's a drink recipe for fun in the sun (My portions/measurements are all off the cuff - far be it from me to use a measuring cup...)

Ingredients:

Couple handfuls of Ice
About 4-5 Fresh Strawberries
Handful of Fresh Blueberries
1/2 Can of GOYA Papaya Nectar
1/2 Can of GOYA Pineapple Nectar
1/4 Can of Coconut Milk
Splash of Cranberry Juice (or whatever juice you want)
Limitless Cruzan Mango Rum (the best, but you can use any rum!)
Mix up in your blender and serve! Delicious!

The best part about the GOYA nectars is that the possibilities are endless - you can mix together any flavors you want and every drink (or recipe) will come out different and each one will be more delicious than the next. Trust me.

Enjoy!

Need A Good Weekend...

As we head into the weekend I am fighting back a true feeling of being overwhelmed. Work has been really stressful the past few weeks and it's all starting to catch up. Big project due today - and It's not looking like I'll make the deadline... I created the deadline myself - but I still feel guilty as hell!

Also, you might have read that I feel like the only single person left in America these days... 99% of my friends are in a committed relationship or are married and starting to have kids. I'm 27, and I want no part of that right now - I am so different from most of the people in my life that it makes me wonder who really understands me. I wouldn't mind meeting the right person and having someone to confide in and rely on, but marriage and kids!? No way... not right now... and meeting that right person, just isn't a priority high on my list. I'm more of a "when it's the right time it will happen" type of person...

It's been hard for me to be around my married friends lately. All they want to do is stick to a routine and they hardly ever want to go out. How am I going to meet the right person by sticking to a 'married persons' routine and never going out!? They don't seem to get it... I'm trying desperately to switch things up and find new people to spend time with, who might share in my desires to be out and about... but it's hard. I don't want to let go of anyone, but I can't help but see my long-time friendships starting to dramatically change and morph into something I'm not sure I'm comfortable with...

Maybe I'll let the overwhelming feeling take over for a day or two and see where I land... hopefully I'll be able to find a happy medium sometime soon... I'm guessing that tons of other single people have gone through this... any advice out there?

Anywho - I'm not going to let it all get me down, the weekend is my time, and my time it will be!I'm hitting the local watering hole and hoping to find a cutie behind the bar! (or sitting next to me!) At least, I'm hoping to just sit back and laugh for a while :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

The Gilded Otter Brewing Company

Hello There!

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend! I went up to New Paltz, NY to visit a good friend and we ended up visiting the Gilded Otter Brewing Company. What a great time! I immediately ordered the sampler and tried a bit of everything - what a selection! From light, nutty tasting beers to dark, rich oatmeal beers. And my personal favorite, the blueberry beer - with real blueberries!

The food was fantastic too! If you go, and I highly suggest that you do, you cannot sit there without trying the Cheese Curds! Fan-tas-tic! I know it sounds ominous, but trust me, you won't be sorry!

The steak dinner was delicious and cooked to perfection and the pear gorgonzola pizza with a mini mesculin salad on top was to die for! The atmosphere was fun, the bartenders were having fun behind the bar, the waiters and waitresses seemed to be a good mood (considering it was the end of a holiday weekend, I'm extra thankful for that!) and the ambiance was welcoming and homey... New Paltz is great, but this brewery makes the visit extra fun!

The bathrooms were clean too - bonus points!

My grade: "A"

Red Diamond Merlot Review

So, anyone who knows me knows that I am a sucker for a nice, dry merlot. I know, I know... merlot - most people hate it. But, it's my wine of choice and no one can stop me! Lately I've really gotten into the habit of stopping by the liquor store on my way home from work on Friday's and spending about $30 on 3-4 bottles of new merlot to try. Some I like and some I've really hated - so I'm going to start reviewing them here. Because really, who doesn't love to find a GREAT bottle of red wine for $10 or less?!?

Last night I uncorked a fresh bottle of Red Diamond Merlot. (this is my second time trying it, but let's just say this time, I was able to actually taste it, ehem....) I found it on sale for about $8.00, which is a huge plus to start with.

Here's what the bottle says: "Just wait until you try it! Our juicy Washington Merlot is brought to life by a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon for structure and complexity while Cabernet Franc rounds out the fruity characteristics. Perfectly balanced fruit, lush tannins and acidity, Red Diamond Merlot will make your mouth water for more."

Here's what I think: Great bottle of wine, very dry with a tasty hint of fruit..just a hint! I was more than happy to drink my two (full) glasses and am ready to purchase another bottle (or three) as soon as it's on sale :)

My Grade: A-

Revlon DoubleTwist Grade

Revlon DoubleTwist grade: "F" FAIL!!!!!!!!

It stayed on all day without falling down under my eyes and was easy to take off! I received compliments on my eyes all day and people had no idea that I was trying a new mascara!

Sounds too good to be true? YES INDEED!

Here's the problem: The packaging of this mascara is different from most. The brush and tube come separately, which is actually becoming more popular... Meaning that you can see the brush through the plastic and the mascara goop is in the tube w/a special closed top. When I first used the Revlon DoubleTwist mascara, I had to open up the tube and put the brush/wand in there for the first time to collect the mascara. Everything was great! BUT, when I went to use this mascara again, just two days later, I pulled the wand out and it was covered in gross GLOBS of black mascara - there was no way I was putting that to my eyelashes... I think they have a major problem with the suction/opening of the tube - it doesn't conform to the new brush they've created and it's really unfortunate because they've got a great idea that worked fabulously well the first time. I think that after the brush sits in the goop, it just adheres to it and the opening is not small enough to pull the excess off. When I say globs, I mean GLOBS!!! And no amount of effort to remove those globs worked...they weren't going anywhere!

Overall, I am extremely dissapointed with this because I was so excited in the beginning. A major let down. Maybe if they created the tube opening to match up with the ups and downs of the brush, this idea could, potentially, work - but for now - it's a good idea gone wrong.

On to Maybeline Colossal Lashes - the one in the bright yellow tube....

Revlon DoubleTwist Mascara Review

Ok, so I have to admit, I am obsessed with mascara. Actually, I'm obsessed with finding a good mascara - this is surprisingly hard as many of you women out there might know! In the past 5-6 months, I have spent nearly $160 on mascaras and have yet to find one that I want to keep.

Until today?

Last night I went and purchased the new Revlon DoubleTwist. I put it on at 7:45 AM and we're going on 12 PM - So far so good! The idea behind this brush is very smart - it combines the two things we really want - volume and a good strong bristle for extension. The wand has smaller bristles for the volumizing and also has bigger, stronger "rubber?" bristles that separate the lashes and extend them too! Fast drying and my lashes aren't crazy hard... people have also commented on how great they look... out of the blue (without me asking them)

Love at first application? I'll let you know my grade tomorrow!

Hello!

Hi!
